- Makes Packing Easier
We’ve all been through the nightmare that is packing for a trip, but when it comes to food, dehydrated meals can really lighten your load (pun intended). Instead of having to think about all of the ingredients that will go into making each one of your meals come to life, dehydrated meals are sealed, compact, and ready to go.
- Reduce Food Weight/Volume
As we mentioned, packing is key. If you don’t have the proper gear, surely the situation will arise where you need whatever you forgot/decided not to bring. On the flip-side, there are too many times when we bring way too much and kick ourselves for having to lug the extra weight around.
With that in mind, why carry around the water weight that non-dehydrated foods inevitably contain? When food is dehydrated, it not only sheds the weight, but also generally decreases in size. This helps keep your gear as light as possible, making the last few miles that much easier, and creates more space for other goodies.
- Minimize Unnecessary Gear
Along the same lines as keeping food weight/space to a minimum, we are pretty darn happy to leave the frying pan, extra pots, spatula, etc. at home with the sun shower and other car-camping gear. With just one pot/cup required to heat your water in, your pack just got that much lighter.
- Decrease Meal Prep Time
There’s nothing like a nice hot meal after a long day in the great outdoors, but a lengthy cooking ordeal is pretty much the last thing we want to suffer through. Just boil water, pour it into the pouch, and wait a few minutes and your well-deserved entre is ready.
The way we think of it, the less time preparing food, the more time we get to relax.
- Ease of Cleanup
Once you’ve finished up your meal, cleanup is the last thing to take care of (besides perfecting that campfire). If you decide to out right out of the dehydrated meal pouches, all you need to do is seal it up and you’re good to go. We won’t judge is you decide to take the classy route and use a separate bowl, you’re just a bit more fancy than us!
We hope you have a better understanding why dehydrated meals can be a critical piece of gear, now find out a little more:
