We can hardly carry on a decent conversation when we’re hungry, so when it comes time to hit the trail, we make sure we are more than covered in terms of food. Here are five snacks to add to your pack to make those extra miles on your next trek a breeze!

1. GORP

This one the best-known trail foods, but with good reason! GORP stands for good old raisins and peanuts, but one of the most popular additions that makes this mix really shine is M&Ms. This addition creates the perfect blend of sweet and savory, making a much-needed burst of energy a handful away.

2. Granola

Although this is often great as a breakfast when milk is added (powdered, of course), it makes for a great snack as well. One of our favorite homemade recipes includes oats, walnuts, sliced almonds, maple syrup, and coconut oil. Give it a shot!

3. Candy Bars

We know these aren’t the most healthy option, but you’re working your butt off out there, so you deserve it. Stash one or two of your favorites in your pack and treat yo’ self! Pro tip: choose a bar with nuts for a little protein boost.

4. Dehydrated Fruits

For weight and space reasons, we’re all about dehydrated food. For that reason, when it comes to a healthy, organic pick-me-up on the trail, dehydrated fruits like apricots, apple slices, banana chips, and mangos are an awesome, guilt-free choice.

5. Shelled Sunflower Seeds

These little guys are an unsung hero of the trail. While small in size, they boast a healthy protein content and a great light, but satisfying flavor.
